Possible new St. Clair County Bow Record Cory Munro of North Lake Port has had his eye on this buck for quite sometime. July of 2004 to be exact. He never thought he would see him with a bow in his hand. Friday, November 5th he got a chance as the buck quickly walked towards his location on the edge of a bean field near Avoca just south of Greenwood Road in St Clair County. He didn't have much time to think about the shot, which is probably good. Cory says he just let 'er fly and the rest of the story is fate. I say it's just plain good big buck lore.
In all probability, this buck was using the DTE (Detroit Edison) property that for so many years was unhuntable to the public. Genes are genes, but the ability to live without pressure can crank up some antler mass in a hurry. This buck has nice mass. Both sides have a semi-palmation with great length and height, which makes up for the lack of outside width at 20 6/8 inches. His longest G2 tine was the right at 11 5/8 inches. Four tines were over ten inches long. He is a typical 8 pointer with a couple of stickers that certainly left a few marks around the neighborhood. DTE just sold off some of their St Clair County property, which changed the old stompin grounds.
Munro spoke proudly of his setup, all Michigan made. He took the book buck with an Onieda bow using Mantex 1-piece broadheads. He set aim for front shoulder, but the buck was moving fairly quickly and the arrow hit the deer midway back and lacerated a spinal artery. He watched the buck fold 60 yards away. Munro was hunting his good friends grandfather's property. Land in which Cory states was in the public access program "for many years". He pulled it out a couple years when the grand kids started hunting. John Ohmer of Commemorative Bucks of Michigan scored the rack at 175 6/8 gross and 167 5/8 net. The buck dressed out at 240 pounds. It should officially be the new St Clair County record after the drying period. Congrats from GLS.com!
